The first shock I had was from an exposed capacitor from a DVD player that I was repairing when I was like 14. It shocked the shit out of me, it was almost like being knocked out while standing up.

Took my og ipad to the genius bar on 2013 ish and they said it was totally unrepairable and a total gonner, tried to sell us a new one on the spot, 6 years later i found it in bottom of drawer and decided to have a look, un screwed back of it and the display cable had came of, put it back was good as new. Unusable as too old by then but working. Waiting for over an hour in line only to be told it wasn’t possible when in reality it was a 10 minute fix

Apple probably watches LInus, and Louis, and just starts punching the air. LOL
I bet they use these videos to make normal products less upgradeable. Knowing most people don't have Linus and Louis' ability, haha

I love Apple,
But one thing i do hate, is their inability to allow repairs PLUS, the amount of INFLUENCE they have.
Whatever wrong things they do, every android copies after apple takes the heat.
Headphone jack, sending phones without chargers, inability to repair. Who knows what's next.
However, with everyone at work, using macs and iphones, it just works so seamlessly to work with send documents, videos, pictures for work.
I'm trapped and cant switch or it'll make my life so uncomfortable. At least the 13 pro max looks nice and got 120 htz, i'll be fine !

― How does Apple take it apart and put it together? Because they CAN, they just wouldn't

Framework should put their motherboard inside a nice chassis with replaceable screen etc. Oh, while they are at it, how about a NAS?

I wish I could add pix to these comments cuz otherwise I’m just going to hafta describe what I have… it’s a NAS made by Apple, I believe. It’s got 14 bays(?) for drives in the front of it, and it had 3.5” 180g Hitachi Deskstar drives in each of these bays. In the back there was two PSU’s, two cooling fans & two inserts(?) with input/output hooks ups on them. It’s a cabinet type that goes into a rack system. Like old high end audio devices. Anyway, what is it… is it really an Apple brand NAS? I’ve looked to try to find info on it but I can’t find anything… anyone who has any knowledge about these, please tell me some things about it… Thanx

no one has ever died from getting shocked by a capacitor, it just a momentary shock, not a continuous thing that will kill you over time.

11:14 only dangerous to idiots.
Most people taking their PC apart are going to have at least some basic knowledge of electronics and the sense not to touch exposed wires/capacitor leads.

It's so entertaining that Louis makes so many backhanded remarks and jokes but just naturally has a very unenthusiastic voice that you almost miss them, which in turn actually makes them funnier.

To all of you who've been shocked:

For these capacitors or any size you’re likely to come across in a computer chasis: a 5 watt resistor about 200kohm of resistance and 1 minute of time per cap will be more than adequate and costs ~$10 USD. As long as the caps don't charge above 750v, then you're looking at less than 4mA of current and less than 3watts.

Short the leads of the capacitor with said resistor for the one minute (2min if you want to be extra cautious) and wear gloves, it will get hot.

Over each 1/5th portion of the first minute (~12.5s) that elapses the capacitor will lose 63%, then 86%, 95%, 98%, and 99% of it’s total charge. I personally would let the resistor rest on a cool surface for a minute or two after a bigger cap like these to dissipate it’s heat and then go back at it.

This isn’t black magic and it’s better for people to know this stuff than to just say "be careful" and "don't touch".

Hello LTT. They gave me a half gift 🙁 It is a Macbook Pro a1989. I took it to Apple here in Colombia, but when they reset it to factory, they tell me that it has a problem: the "MLB that is a sensor". LTT that component can be repair ?, or should I replace the entire LogicBoard? Thanks for your reply.

this whole saga reminds me of my first day at my job as a tech repair guy where my then coworker dropped the screen of an imac and ripped the connector. luckily for us it was fixable with some steady soddering.

21:24 Yessss Louis!!! Nailed it! I attempt to explain this to apple users who have apple products tank all the time and then go and buy the new ones because it can't be apples fault. What's that you say, apple is purposely slowing down my phone through "updates" so I go buy a new one that's faster??!!! Well I'm just gonna act like that never happened because I enjoy the "ecosystem" so much with all the facetime, icloud drop and whatnot. What's that you say, apple is designing products that don't allow parts to be replaced by repair shops or the end user even it is from another identical OEM apple product? Well that's okay! Because well…facetime!!!! icloud! What's that you say, apple is putting chips in their charge/data cables so no ordinary usb c cable will work? But…but…FACETIME!!!! ITUNES!

This is actually using full size dimms when iMacs usually use laptop ones for some reason…
Power supplies are not that dangerous, capacitors get discharged by resistors or the power supply itself sometimes. If there is no discharging resistor then you should be careful… or like me, add one!
I am not scared of those power supplies at all, I tend to upgrade them or repair them if they fail.
