In this video we’re gonna talk about Amazon versus Google AdWords which one should you start with. So you’re obviously you’re starting a new business or maybe you’ve been in business for a little while and you haven’t yet utilized either Amazon or Google AdWords well where should you start the quick answer is for 99% of the people out there Amazon to be honest Amazon is such a powerful system it’s a it is a beast and. So why do I say this last year 50% of all e-commerce sales were made on Amazon.
That’s all ecommerce every time someone used their credit card online 50% of one out of two of those was on Amazon now contrast that with Google AdWords and I think Google AdWords has a lot of benefits don’t get me wrong but setting up Amazon is. So simple it’s just you basically upload your product you do a little bit of things sure you try to get some reviews technically you’re not supposed to do incentivized reviews but pretty much everybody out there does and then other than that it’s just a snowball that kind of grows on its own where AdWords is gonna cost you money averaged you might spend hundreds of dollars before you make a single sale before you make a single dollar back.

Though that’s the big breakdown of the two here but let’s dive in a little bit deeper. So I started my first company bean answer my first e-commerce company B dance we’re about five years ago and I did AdWords for a long time and you know it’s a struggle at first I’m not gonna lie to you it’s not easy right away and I did make a mistake of not learning from someone else that’s already done it I wish I would have bought a course or paid a consultant to teach me how to do it I didn’t do that. So it took me a little while to really understand it 100% in the meantime I was losing money month after month after month but eventually it got to this point where it was making making money for me now contrast that with Amazon with Amazon you make money right out of the gate I mean as soon as you make a sale you and you only spend money if you’re making sales I think there might be a $40 a month fee for Amazon sellers but that’s. So tiny that it’s almost not even important but you’re most the way the Amazon makes is if you sell a product they take a percentage of it google adwords doesn’t care if you’re selling or not all they care if someone clicks on your ad they charge you.
The short answer is if you’re not on Amazon yet get on Amazon but that’s only a short part of the answer I think the real answer is do both start with Amazon and then eventually do Google AdWords with your Shopify store or whatever you know blue commerce or whatever else you have and the reason for that is you don’t want your business to reliant on Amazon because they can kick you off like that and they’ve been known to do that for a bunch of random reasons I’ve had friends get banned for almost no reason from Amazon and there goes their business overnight it’s basically they’re not not bankrupt but their their business is not getting any more sales the good thing about AdWords is it they’re very unlikely to ban you as long as you’re not selling total crap total scam stuff they want your money they want you to keep coming back. So it’s good to do both eventually specifically with AdWords I recommend product listing ads if you’re just getting started they’re such an easy way to make money now I do have courses on both Amazon and AdWords. These are the things that Google puts in the search results for free because it is high-quality content and Google knows that they are going to provide a solution. What Google posts on the top of the search results are Paid Ads. The way to get to this spot is through the Google Ads platform.
The benefit of using Google Ads is it accelerates your results. The way it works is that you would tell Google that you want your ad to be on top of the search results of a certain keyword. A keyword is whatever someone searches on Google. Google, in turn, wants to be paid for this. You will tell Google that I will give you $1.00 every time someone clicks on my ad. You don’t pay unless someone clicks on your ad.
For Google Ads, it’s a bidding system. Someone may come along and say he/she will give $1.10. They would go on top of the search results. The more people involved, the higher the bid potentially could be. The way it works is that you know that every time someone clicks on your ad, it’s going to cost you $1.00. If you make $2.00 on average every time someone clicks on your ad, then it makes sense.
One thing that makes Google Ad so powerful is that not only are you able to target specific keywords, you can also target by geography, time zone, and device. You can get very analytical and figure things out that work for you and your business. A quick tip also is to bid on a more targeted keyword. The person searching for this will most likely buy than those searching for a generic keyword.
Another important thing is to do a Split Test of your ad copy. You might have an Ad A and you can also write a better one as Ad B. The message, the actual wording that shows up when someone is about to click on your ad, is very important. The goal is to get a message that converts as high as possible. This means that out of how many times a person sees your ad, how often do they actually click on your ad. You want that number to be as high as possible. This is called your Click Through Rate. The better your Click Through Rate is, the lower Google will charge you per click.
To sum this up, this is what you call a Funnel. At the top of the Funnel is everybody in the world that is searching for a particular keyword. Out of all these people, a small percentage of them will actually click on your ad. Out of these people that clicked on your ad, a small percentage of them will actually purchase your product. That is what’s important. You want to grow every section as much as you can. The way to increase your sales is to increase the percentage that goes through every part of your Funnel. That will have a trickle down effect.

Where do you sell your products? Are you depending more on Amazon Ads or Google Ads? Let us go through some important differences found between both platforms.
Actually, the ad revenue for Amazon is going five times faster than Google, does that mean that Amazon is going to win the game? People should understand that most of our products are found on Amazon itself and when people go to Google to look for information as well as products, they end up between these two different platforms.
Where should your product go? Starting the journey was with Google, it was the only go-to platform for businesses in order to make it easier for customers to find their products and services, and this meant that in order to be found online, you should be on Google and optimizing for it.
Lately, with the appearance of the different social media platforms, businesses gained a lot of chances to expose their products and services, and Amazon at this stage is offering its retailers different other alternatives to get more exposure. Retailers love Amazon more because of its low barrier to entry, flexibility, as well as the different options it offers without having to have a big team of developers and designers.
Google and Amazon Ads are very similar to one another but there are still some differences to be found between them as well. Google Ad is a paid campaign program designed to show products and promote them, these are located on top of paid search Ads and organic listings. Google Ads show a product’s image, price, seller’s name and some other details such as the shipping information.
Recently, Google expanded its version to become a little bit more like Amazon with the star rating thing. There is one important thing that differentiates Google from Amazon; Google is following the click on ad tool which will take the person to the page of the seller and actually the advertiser will pay for every click that is pressed. On the other side, Amazon does not take you outside Amazon, everything happens and stays inside.
Amazon has its own advertising platform on which those selling on it could create their own ads, and again, it never takes you outside of Amazon. There are different types of ads on Amazon and they are not all provided for all the users, those provided for the first party seller (vendor) are not the same as those allowed and provided for third party sellers, which is important for people to know all about the details related to these different ads.
These are some of the most important things to know about Google and Amazon ads, and there are some similarities and difference found between them. Starting with the similarities, we should say that both ads are similar in that they let the sellers display their product’s image, price, description, shipping and star rating. Also both ads when it comes to pricing are the same, they are pay per click (PPC) and allow the seller to advertise with small budgets. Also both types of ads show on top of the organic listings and share the ad space with other competitor’s products. Finally, the last similar thing between Amazon and Google ads is that they both require some level of optimization using best practices to maintain visibility for the best cost.
There are also some differences between the two different platforms and their ads. Google takes the buyer to the seller’s website and this is actually one of the good things because it will increase the number of visitors to the website, while Amazon on the other side only take the visitor to the page of the seller on the website.
There are still some other in-between-the-lines details related to the ads of Google and Amazon that would let you know which one to choose between them both, but we have to say that even though we believe that Google ads are better especially for product awareness since getting to the website will let the visitor know more about the seller and the other different products that it might be offering. Using both will be considered the best to get in competition on different platforms and get more exposure.
If you are thinking about one platform only to be placed on then it is important to go through these differences and similarities again in order to make the right choice eventually.
